10:00am – 4:00pm
Parkhead Nazarene (12-14 Burgher St, Glasgow G31 4TB)
Betsy de Theirry – Betsy is an author, entrepreneur, practising psychotherapist, complex-trauma specialist & the Senior Leader of Sound Church, Bath. Betsy has founded several charities that work directly with those who are impacted by trauma and consults both Governmental and Non-Governmental Agencies in over 30 nations. Including helping to establish the “Bairn’s Hoose” with Children First Scotland with the backing of the Scottish Government.
She is a firm believer that following Jesus is life transforming, and there has never been a bigger need
in our world for a church that is trauma informed and where we see the kind of stuff that Jesus did happen.
Betsy is married to Andrew and a mother to four wonderful sons. Cairn Gathering – each year this network of missional practitioners – church leaders, church planters and other spiritual entrepreneurs gather together three
times a year. In early spring for a day of teaching; in summer to celebrate what the Lord has been doing and in autumn to spend time on spiritual retreat. All are welcome.
Trauma Informed Church – So many of us in church are growing increasingly aware of the realities and challenges of living in a world full of trauma. We know that there must be something we can do to support each other and those in the wider
communities we serve but don’t perhaps know where to start.
This day together will seek to lay the foundations of becoming trauma informed as a church. The wonderful news is that trauma recovery is possible but it is harder as it needs more strategy to get people into teams that complement each other for the goal of recovery. This may be where we seek to end up but it only works with trauma informed culture in place – which most churches don’t have at all. So much is specific to the history of churches which has caused trauma and needs to be addressed to make churches safe!
The good news is that for those that want to go deeper and build toward Trauma Recovery there will be online trainings which people can access after that.
